The Sports Car Club of America® brings its exciting, highly-competitive brand of road racing to the West Coast in 2018 when the legendary National Championship Runoffs® makes its first-ever visit October 16-21 to Sonoma Raceway. Several hundred drivers and cars will take part in three days of qualifying, followed by three days of racing to decide who is the best across 27 different car classes. The SCCA® Runoffs has evolved into what is now commonly agreed to be the pinnacle of American amateur motorsports. Since 1964, the SCCA has crowned Road Racing National Champions through the winner-take-all Runoffs format. As host of the 55th Runoffs in 2018, Sonoma Raceway becomes only the third California track to host the SCCA’s National Championship.
The Sports Car Club of America, Inc., founded in 1944, is a 67,500-member motorsports organization that incorporates all facets of road racing, autocross and rally at both Club and professional levels. With headquarters in Topeka, Kansas, the SCCA annually sanctions over 2,000 events through its 116 Regions and subsidiary divisions. The Club has helped launch the careers of famous racers such as Roger Penske, Chip Ganassi, Michael Andretti, Bobby Rahal, Graham Rahal, Danica Patrick, Paul Newman, Carroll Shelby, Dan Gurney, Al Unser Jr., Rick Mears and many, many others.
