Raceway Partners with PG&E, USO on Tickets for Troops Program

PROGRAM ENABLES MILITARY MEMBERS TO ATTEND IZOD INDYCAR® SERIES RACE FOR FREE
Friday, August 6, 2010

Thousands of active military members, veterans and their families will attend the Indy® Grand Prix of Sonoma at Infineon Raceway on Sunday, Aug. 22, thanks to the Tickets for Troops program.

The raceway has partnered with Pacific Gas & Electric Company and the United Services Organization (USO) of Northern California to distribute approximately 10,000 race-day tickets to all branches of the military, including the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard and National Guard, as well as veterans.

These guests will be treated to an exciting day of IZOD IndyCar® Series racing, featuring top drivers like Will Power, Helio Castroneves and 2009 Sonoma winner Dario Franchitti. It should make for a memorable day as Infineon Raceway culminates its season-long Sonoma Salutes Our Troops campaign.

Race day, Sunday, Aug. 22, will be recognized as Military Appreciation Day and will include several special elements during pre-race ceremonies, including a Tickets for Troops presentation. Both PG&E and the USO of Northern California are pleased to be part of the program.

"PG&E is very fortunate to count many veterans and members of the military among our ranks,” said Greg Pruett, Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Pacific Gas and Electric Company. “We are honored to participate in the Tickets for Troops program as a way to recognize and show our appreciation for the sacrifices of our troops and their families."

In addition, race fans and local businesses are invited to get involved. The raceway will discount reserved race-day tickets on Sunday, Aug. 22, to $20. Race fans and local businesses can purchase tickets at this price for distribution to active military members, veterans and their families through the raceway and USO of Northern California. To purchase these tickets, call 800-870-RACE or visit www.infienonraceway.com.

Military Appreciation Day culminates the raceway’s season-long salute to the military. The raceway has featured a strong military presence at all major events during the 2010 Big O Tires Racing Season, and that will include the Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma. Some of the elements you can expect include:

  • A Hometown Hero will be recognized during pre-race ceremonies on Sunday, Aug. 22.
  • The raceway will continue its partnership with Vintage Valley Blue Star Moms (serving Solano, Napa and Yolo counties), which will host the Sonoma Salutes Our Troops booth. The booth has generated nearly $3,000 in donations that have been used to purchase and ship supplies to troops overseas. You can also visit the booth and write a special note to a military member.
  • A special video tribute during pre-race ceremonies on Sunday, Aug. 22, recognizing all branches of the military.
  • Military fly-bys, joint Honor Guard, Army cannon salute and more, also during pre-race ceremonies on Sunday, Aug. 22.
