Infineon Raceway will again honor the memory of the late Eric Medlen with two special events surrounding the FRAM Autolite NHRA Nationals, July 25-27.
Medlen, a native of Oakdale in the San Joaquin Valley who competed for John Force Racing, won the Funny Car title in the Sonoma Valley in 2006 and called Infineon Raceway his home track. He succumbed in March, 2007, to injuries sustained from an accident during a test session at Gainesville (Fla.).
To begin the weekend, Infineon Raceway will host the 2nd annual Eric Medlen Nitro Night at the Fior Charity Dinner on Thursday, July 24, at the Fior d'Italia restaurant in San Francisco. Medlen attended the inaugural event in 2006, and the event was renamed in his honor last year.
A number of NHRA drivers are expected to attend, including Funny Car drivers Ashley Force, Robert Hight, Ron Capps and Jack Beckman. All proceeds from the dinner benefit Speedway Children's Charities, the charitable arm of Infineon Raceway. Tickets are $125 per person. To reserve your seat for the dinner, contact Denise Silver at 707-933-3950 or dsilver@infineonraceway.com.
Race fans are also invited to honor Medlen's memory during the 2nd annual Eric Medlen Ice Cream Social, which will take place on the race surface following the final round of eliminations on Sunday, July 27. Medlen was a lover of ice cream, and the raceway has teamed with Dreyer's Ice Cream to make this event possible. Each fan will be treated to a free scoop.
Fans are encouraged to make a donation to the Eric Medlen Scholarship Fund while they are enjoying their ice cream. Infineon Raceway will match up to $4,500 in donations, and the scholarship will be awarded in Medlen's name to an Infineon Raceway high school bracket drag racer.
