The fastest drivers in the world will converge on the Infineon Raceway drag strip, July 25-27, for the FRAM Autolite NHRA Nationals in Sonoma. The world-famous drag strip has always been a favorite stop on the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series circuit.
"Each year I can't wait to get back to Sonoma. I consider it my home track and I love racing there. They've done so much with the drag strip; it's one of the top places we go each year," said Funny Car driver Gary Scelzi, who was inducted into the raceway's Wall of Fame in 2007 and is a two-time Funny Car winner there.
The FRAM Autolite NHRA Nationals comes to the scenic Sonoma Valley for the 21st consecutive year in 2008, and fans will be treated to some of the fastest racing in the country. Four track records were broken last year and six were broken in 2006, so expect speeds to be at all-time highs.
"It's a great place to race; I love going there," said 14-time world champion John Force, who won an emotional Funny Car title in Sonoma in 2007. Force defeated his daughter, Ashley, in the first round and the victory came one year after the late Eric Medlen, his former teammate, won the Funny Car crown at Infineon Raceway.
Greg Anderson will be looking for his fourth Pro Stock win in Sonoma in five years, while five-time Top Fuel champion Tony Schumacher will look for his second straight win at Infineon Raceway.
It will certainly be an action-packed three days, highlighted by qualifying under the lights on Friday, July 25, and final eliminations set to begin at 11 a.m. on Sunday, July 27. There will also be a Wall of Fame ceremony as well as many of the other entertainment staples you've come to expect at Infineon Raceway.
