The popular Wednesday Night Drags program returned to the Infineon Raceway drag strip, May 21, as area law enforcement officers continued their winning ways in the Top the Cops program, taking three of five races over local high school students. Walnut Creek racers Jason Hannigan and Brian Kinni, each scored wins in their respective Top the Cops races to prevent the shut-out.
American Canyon's Steve Caldwell ended his winless streak and walked off with top honors in the Jack Pot class. Newark's Rick McIlmoil made it back-to-back victories in Sport Street and Novato's Doug Love continued his domination in the Motorcycle class.
Napa's Joe Rossi scored another victory in the Comp Rod class with his 1963 Chevy Nova and Santa Rosa's Craig Love held off a late charge by Hayward's Mike Emerson to win the Street division. Napa's Michael Byrne topped the field in High School, collecting his second class win of the season.
Wednesday Night Drags racing returns to the Infineon Raceway drag strip, May 28. Gates open at 3 p.m.; competition begins at 5 p.m. Cost is $25 for competitors, $15 for students with their high school identification card and $10 for spectators. For more information, call 800-870-RACE ext. 209.
