Infineon Raceway is known for its world-class racing, but in September, the facility will take a step back in time.

For one night, the facility will return to the fun-filled days of sock-hops and poodle skirts of the 1950s as Infineon Raceway hosts Dancin¿ & Draggin¿, a charity fund-raising event that benefits Sonoma Valley public schools, Sept. 18. Gates open at 6 p.m.

Dancin¿ & Draggin¿ is a 1950s-style dance party that will feature drag racing on Infineon Raceway¿s world-class quarter-mile strip, Mel¿s Drive-in style cuisine and live music. This will mark the fourth time the raceway has hosted the event. The last event in 2002 raised $135,000.

The cherry on top of this sundae is the opportunity for people to compete on the same quarter-mile drag strip as NHRA POWERade stars John Force and Kenny Bernstein. Each person who purchases a ticket to the event will have his/her name thrown into a lottery. Seventy-five names will then be drawn, and those people can compete in the drag-racing portion of the event.

Other highlights of the evening will include the ¿Grocery Getters¿ competition, a comical event that involves drag racing, groceries, baby dolls and SUVs. The night will also boast a featured grudge race. Competitors have not yet been determined.

Cost is $35 for general admission, which includes dinner, and $75 for suite tickets. This includes dinner, appetizers and admittance into one of Infineon Raceway¿s luxurious corporate suites.

There are also two event sponsorships available:

  • Corporate ($1,000): Includes entry into celebrity race with vehicle of your choice; four luxury suite passes; light snacks, dinner and beverages; and two passes to the Thursday practice and party.
  • Presenting ($5,000): Includes entry into celebrity race with vehicle of your choice; eight luxury suite passes; catered dinner with beverages; four passes to the Thursday practice and party; and inclusion in all advertising.
