Welcome to Raceway Rant

Lynne Tibbet

Well, here we are in Daytona Beach with our first entry the "Raceway Rant" blog. We hope you enjoy this new feature.

Not much going on today; it's been storming most of the day. However, we did run into a very nice couple from the North Bay while sitting in the lounge of our resort. Mike Ruckrigl is from Santa Rosa and he is in Daytona celebrating his 25th wedding anniversary with his wife, Annette. Mike lives in Santa Rosa and is retired from the Air Force. He is a huge Dale Jr. fan and even has a 4X4 quilt in his house that his wife made from all of his Dale Jr. T-shirts.

Mike's sister, Patty Soper, is also on the trip with her husband, Ray. They are celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary. She is a huge Carl Edwards fan and she lives in Penngrove. It's certainly a small world, that's for sure.

Both Mike and Patty had planned on celebrating their anniversaries in the Bahamas, but when they heard it was the 50th running of the Daytona 500, they decided to come here. That's dedication!

It's neat to be in a city where motor sports dominates, whether it's on the radio, TV or newspapers. Everything is all about the Daytona 500. Check back soon for more updates from the "Epicenter of Racing."
